How to get back to the workforce 4 years after having babies?

I need to get back to the work force 4 years after having baies.
I have a BA in economics and 7 years work experience. I have been trying to get back to work but I am having a very hard time and have been offered very low pay as $15/hr even lower with temp agencies…. Is my best option to go back to school for more education or what???

You didn’t mention what field you’d worked in, or what you hope to do now, so I can’t give specific advice. However, depending on your field, and your skillset, it’s possible that you may need to take a job at a lower level than the one you’d had when you were last employed. It may be a bit humbling to do so, but it will allow you to get back into the workforce and build your resume again. If you do well, you’ll get promoted, or be able to find another job.

Temping can be an okay option, but it’s sometimes a dead-end. It depends on what your career was. If it was accounting, or admin, then temping can actually be a really good way not only to build your resume a bit, but perhaps to find a full time job at one of the companies where you’ll be temping. But if you’ll be temping admin, and your actual career was, say, marketing management, then this isn’t a good choice unless you want to become an admin.

Going back to school may be a good option, but make sure that you go to the best reputed school possible, in the field in which you plan to work. Avoid online degrees and polarizing schools like U of Phoenix, as a lot of employers won’t hire their graduates.

Try to call in your networking contacts. Contact old bosses and coworkers, people at church, people in any social organisations that you are part of, and let them *all* know that you are looking. For old coworkers and bosses, ask them to let you know of anything they hear of, at their company or elsewhere. Also, have one of them – someone who hires people – look over your resume and give you some honest feedback on what you have on there.
