Did Virgin Mary bear a son or sun?
Over the years, controversy has raged concerning the biblical text of Isaiah 7:14 that, <a virgin shall conceive and bear a son.>
This text is supposed to be the prophecy fulfilled in the virgin’s birth of a son, known as Jesus Christ. Every English speaking person is familiar with the two words—son and sun. Spelling wise the two are not the same; the meanings are also not the same; but when it comes to pronunciation, they deceptively sound the same!
The 20th century chamber’s English dictionary gives the word “sonne” as an old spelling for both sun and son! Let us examine a few other examples collected from dictionaries about sun and son.

What do these examples reveal about the possible confusion between son and sun? I trace the source of the words –son and sun- to an Indian word “sona” which is defined as “gold”. (See the word “soneri-chambers English dictionary). Alchemists associate the metal gold with the sun; and gold as a color goes with the sun.
Ancient writers had their own style of writing. They were fond of using cryptic language to hide the truth; to mystify their readers. They dabbled in punning. What is punning or what is a pun? The dictionaries say:
<A joke that uses a word or words with more than one meaning>
<A jest consisting in the use of a word that has more than one sense or is easily confusable in sound with another.>
The second definition is closely related to the point I want to make; that there is the possibility of confusion between son and sun with regards to what the Virgin Mary bore. This confusion could be the basis of all Christological debates about the person of Christ. I refer the reader to a popular English hymn sung at Christmas time
< Brightest and best of the sons of the morning, dawn on our darkness and lend us thine aid. Star of the east the horizon adorning, guide where our infant redeemer is laid.> (hymn no 122 Methodist hymn book)
Read this hymn carefully. How does “sons” tally with “star of the east”?
The word “son” when analyzed from various sources does not necessarily mean “a male child”. It also means a descendant; an offspring, male or female; a branch of the family (comp. Christ, son of David). From King James Version of the bible Galatians 4:4, the writer says < the son is made of woman.> if a fabric is made of cotton the fabric and cotton are one and the same, isn’t it?
Who is the “royal son” in Psalm 72? And who is the Royal bride in Psalm 45:7-10?
The Virgin Mary belonged to the DAVIDIC STOCK. She was a descendant of the Royal house of David(Hos 5:1/2:18-20) the Latin word for branch-”ramus” shares the same root with the name Mary (mar/ram) she was the “son”, the descendant that came into the world already filled with the spirit, the sun, intangible, invisible.
In ancient mysticism, the sun stood for God; the light, the King, the Lion. The “son” the represented the queen, the bride, the womb, the moon, the mother. (See Encyclopedia of the Living Faiths edited by R.C.Zaehner page 29) The son and the sun, the male and the female, the father and the mother in union constitute the two aspects of the Godhead; hence the word”tha” “theos”, “deus” from some languages meaning the twin-god— the father-mother God. In the Masters of Wisdom, pg 31, J.G.Bennett says, < if the sun is the father of life then the earth is certainly its mother (comp Gen 9:13; Isaiah 49:8). Note this one too: in the book, In search of magic and witchcraft, author Alan Landsburg says < mother gives birth to the sun, Lord of life that returns in spring and the child of promise is the light giving sun born by the mother goddess, Queen of the moon>(pages 74-75)
In the bible, Gen 18:10-14, an angel announced to Sarah wife of Abraham, that she will bear a “son” in spring. The sun comes in spring and gives life to all dormant vegetation. Sarah would surely give birth to the sun and not a son!
In the litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary (pg 253-254; Divine Mysteries of the Holy Rosary) the virgin is addressed as the Morning star. The morning star also called phosphors (light bearer) cannot be applied to the Virgin Mary if she just bore a son! Who is speaking in Revelation 22:16, < I am the bright morning star> it is Christ speaking through the Virgin Mary. In Divine Mysteries, Christ says < he uses the voice of the virgin to speak (pg28)
There is an enigmatic passage in the bible: (New world Translation of the Holy Scripture edition 1968) look for edition 1968 and analyze the book of Isaiah, chapter 60. It says, < arise, O woman, shed forth light, for your light has come. And upon you the very glory of Jehovah has shown forth…….
Who is this woman? The Virgin Mary is more than we take her to be. The personality of Godhead, the 2nd person of Godhead is made up of two energies- matter and Spirit
It is a Holy union or matrimony between heaven (God) and earth (Woman) (Gen 9:12-17) demonstrating the male and female principles within God. If he is the Father, she is also a Mother! The virgin carried the spirit, the invisible Father God! The mother is the Visible ONE.
