Blade Knife

How to paint and finish a knife blade?
well, i have a nice schrade “X timer” knife and its blade is about 7 inches long. the black finish has gotten kind of worn down and i just decided to take the it off the blade because it was looking all faded and scratched off and ugly. so i need to know how i can put a fresh black finish, or even another color, back onto it. anyone?
If you want longer lasting finish on your knife you’d have to contact either a knifemaker or a company that does the coatings.
I’ve done that few times in the past, with bodtycote, but unfortunately they don’t do custom orders anymore.
My Benchmade Nimravus and ares were both recoated, because the original BT-2 coating wears off real quick and gets scratched very easy, – http://zknives.com/knives/fixed/prod/nimravus.shtml there’s more details on that.
As for the coating materials itself, Duracoat doesn’t really work for knife blades, several people tried and reported not so encouraging results on BF.
Much better is Titanium nitride, or if you cant’ get that, Boron Carbide coating. Those are very hard and thin.
I’ve had Boron Carbide on Nimravus and every day carry BM 710 (http://zknives.com/knives/folding/benchmade/bm710ax.shtml) for years and still looking very fresh.

Dire Straits $4.46 By the mid-’80s Dire Straits were a platinum band dismissed in their native England as safe, yuppie rockers, yet the original quartet’s lean, guitar-driven music struggled to find a label home when first recorded in 1978. Mark Knopfler offers craggy vocals, literate blues-based songs, and sinuous, virtuosic guitar work. He melds keening solo lines and rapidly picked fills and dodges the synth wash… |

Blade: Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture $17.98 The Blade soundtrack matches up with expectations for the film pretty well: there are a few artists who have done some consistently good work, most of whom seem to be slumming it here (KRS-One, Gang Starr); there are a couple trying to change their image and prove that they can be relevant in another context (New Order); there’s a completely unexpected appearance by someone you’d completely forgot… |
