Are dental implants safe for a 17 year old?!?

When i was 10 i knocked out my two front teeth and my dentist put them back in to hold the space. Im 17 now and have been referred to a dental hospital. They are planbing on removing the teeth and doing a bovine bone graft. Is that safe? Then in about 6 months they are going to put implants in. Are they safe for my age? Its going to be done in dublin dental hospital by a periodontist. Thank you!

Hiya, yeah of course it’s safe.
I started treatment for my dental implants when i was 16 and i am now 18 and on the last bit of my treatment which is the 6 month healing process after having the first stage implants being put in.

The bone graft is perfectly safe. You obviously do not have enough bone in your gums to support the implants.If you don’t have a bovine bone graft they’ll probably take some bone from your hip. I had one done and i was walking fine within a week. It’s a bit sore when you first wake up. It’s a struggle to life the leg from the side you have the bone taken from for at least a week and you’ll need someone to help you get in and out of bed/shower and onto the sofa. The scar is relativly small, i had mine done on the 1st september last year and it’s now faded.

(If you have a bovine bone graft you’ll start here but won’t have screws removed)
You’ll heal up and then about 6 months later you’ll go back to hospital and have about 35 injections to numb the area. They’ll then slice open your gums, remove the screws holding in place the bone graft, drill into your gums/bone and then put some pegs in. You’ll then be stiched up and have to heal for about 6 months at least. It is more painful in my opinion than the bone graft and it’ll take about 2-4 hours for it whilst your awake, so take some music.

6 months down the line, is everything has healed ok and your body has not rejected the bone you’l have your gums slit open again and your new teeth screwed on.

They are perfectly safe and i’m guessing will be well worth the pain. I’m sorry to hear that you lost your two front teeth but good luck with the implants. Feel free to message me if you have any questions =D
