How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

If I am ever at the receiving end of a bullet or large knife I hope my friends all say that I was assassinated…

When you become a target for an idea or for what you represent and not because of you personally, you are assassinated and not just murdered.

Example is John Lennon. He was killed because he was “A Beatle” and not because the killer had a beef against him.

Another is Spenser Percival, one time Prime Minister of England. His killer was a man who had a problem he blamed on the government. He killed Percival to bring attention to himself. Any PM would have done. Percival just happened to be handy.

President James Garfield was killed by a man who disagreed with any form of Government. He wanted Anarchy. He would have killed any man in Garfield’s position.

You do not have to be a world leader to be assassinated, you just have to have become a target because of what you represent to the killer.
