Create Your Own Fancy Dress Outfit with these Top Tips

Do you need some help thinking of fancy dress ideas? Maybe you are organising a fancy dress party and you need to think of a costume to really stand out from the crowd or maybe you’re a guest at someone else’s party and need a fabulous costume. It can be hugely enjoyable and very affordable to create a fantastic fancy dress costume if you have some ideas to help you.

• Think of a Theme

This could be a favourite movie, television series, children’s book, cartoon, toy, fairy tale, era or anything that you really like. When you’ve thought of something you like as a theme think about the characters you could dress up as in that theme.

Firstly it is important to think about the theme you like and count how many characters you could dress up as within this theme as you want to make it varied? Then think about whether the costumes within the theme are easy to re-create? Do you think everybody knows the theme and the characters from it?

Choose a popular theme if possible so that your guests will find it easy to get a costume, this way they are more likely to come along and make the effort to dress up.

• Make it Affordable

Not many people want to go and spend lots of money on a fancy dress costume, as chances are it will only get worn once, so it’s fairly important to choose a theme that is easy to make affordable costumes for.

To make an affordable costume you could look around the charity shops for items of clothing, use what you already own or borrow some things from friends.

Alternatively have a look online for second hand costumes or if you prefer something new look for the budget costumes, as there are some fantastic ones out there that don’t cost too much and are ready to wear.

• Make it Comfortable

The last thing you want to be at a party is uncomfortable so try your costume on beforehand and make sure it’s comfortable. Check out the movement available in your costume by dancing around at home as you might at a party.

You should also check that you can eat and drink in your costume as you don’t want to have to take it off when you get to the party to have a drink~It’s a good idea to check that you can easily eat or drink as well as there’s nothing worse than getting to a party and realising you can’t}! If your outfit has a mask or a headpiece check before you go to the party that it is possible to drink and eat comfortably while wearing it.

Think about where the party is being held and how you’ll get there, and then consider how warm it will be in the venue at this time of year. Obviously temperature will also depend on the time of year so it’s important to think about the season before you plan your costume appropriately.

•  Make it fun

A fancy dress party should be fun so you might as well make the run up to it fun as well. Make things fun by planning your costume ahead of the party with a friend or a partner and coordinate so your outfits match.

If you don’t know any characters from the chosen theme have a look online for some images or watch a movie if there is one related to the theme.

If you enjoy dressing up you can invite all your friends round and get creative, try lots of outfits on and put the best one together as your costumes. It’s always fantastic fun to travel to a fancy dress party with your friends so it’s best to get ready together beforehand.

• Accessorise

Accessories are probably the most important part of any fancy dress costume. Your outfit will look stunning with a few carefully chosen accessories as you will get in character but you won’t be breaking the bank.

You can create the perfect fancy dress costume using accessories as they can be added to any outfit to make it look amazing and authentic.

Accessories can make an outfit look like the real thing so if you pay attention to the details of your character you can create an amazing outfit with the right accessories. You can buy accessories from a shop or just as easily online so you can quickly and easily create a stunning looking costume.

 

If you use all these tips you should have no trouble at all coming up with fancy dress ideas and creating a fantastic costume.
