Am I too self-conscious?

It seems that, when I am around other people, I am often hesitant in the way I behave. I worry that I am not holding the beer bottle correctly, or that I am not placing the cutlery in the proper position at a restaurant. Even when I am just walking, I wonder if I would look stupid if I place my hands in my jean pockets when I walk.

I think that part of this self-conscious behavior is due to the fact that I don’t participate in social gatherings that much; I prefer to stay at home a lot, where I am comfortable with doing stuff however I want to. I am worried that people will see me doing things differently than others and look down on me for that.

What should I do? Should I just not care what others think, or should I research about social etiquette before I come out?
