x less than or equal to – 10 or x > 4 how do the signs get to be like that?

Well, this is the way I would do it.

1) Find all the values that make this equation undefined or zero.
2) Find where the equation is greater or equal to zero.

1) -10 makes the equation zero, and 4 makes the equation undefined.
2) All values greater than 4 would make equation positive.
i.e ((5+10)/(5-4)=15/1= 15, a positive number
3)Secondly, all values in between -10 and 4 would make it negative.
i.e ((0+10)/(0-4)=10/-4 = negative
4) Now, check any values less than 10.
i.e. ((-20+10)/(-20-4)= -10/-24 = positive

So, when x less than or equal to – 10 or x > 4, the equation is greater than zero.

Pretty much, check values in between the zeroes, and outside both zeroes as shown above.
