How to find out more about my Heckler & Koch G3 rifle?

Hello there…

I have recently purchased from a local militaria dealer a beautiful (deactivated!) Heckler & Koch G3 rifle… I was wondering though if any one knew how to track down the guns date of manufacture/origin/use etc by using the serial number, or if any information could be gleaned from knowing the serial number at all? I would be most greatfull of any ideas & suggestions… The serial number is G3 A3 6901847 EN Thanks very much!

world.guns.ru is a great site – unfortuanately no info on the serial numbers though :-( Any more ideas??

If the rifle is newer (1970′s or so) it may have a two letter code on it. These letters will tell you the last two digits of the year it was made.
