Slayer Albums – The Best Metal Music

This dark and amazing hardcore metal band was formed in 1981 in Huntington, California. To date, they have released a total of 11 Slayer albums. This has made the band put among the best in hard metal music, not only in the United States, but around the world.

The band is currently composed of Jeff Hanneman (guitar), Tom Araya (vocals), Dave Lombardo (drums), and Kerry King (guitar). During those times they would practice while wearing band merch of the bands that influenced them.

‘Show No Mercy’, released in December of 1983, is the band’s debut album and was released through Metal Blade Records. It has been for its poor recording quality. It sold about 20,000 copies which was Metal Blade Records’ highest selling release. The promote the album, the band went on their first nationwide tour albeit on their own expense. Needless to say, did they not earn much from the tour.

‘Hell Awaits’ was released in 1985 through the same record label. Unlike the first one, this album was financed by Metal Blade Records. ‘Show No Mercy’ was financed by Tom Araya and from money borrowed from Kerry King’s father. The second album had a more darker and angrier tone, with references to hell and Satan.

‘Reign in Blood’ is the third of the Slayer albums and their first ever collaboration with a major record label producer in the person of Rick Rubin of Def Jam Recordings. It was released on October 7, 1986 and their first album to enter the Billboard 200. It was then that demand for their Slayer merch got started.

Their next album was titled ‘South of Heaven’ and was launched on the 5th of July, 1988. It was quite different in that it featured songs with slower tempo. This was a change noted by their fans and also by the critics which did not give the album a favorable review.

On October 1990, the band released their ‘Seasons in the Abyss’ album, this time through American Recordings. It once again entered the Billboard 200 and was much better received by the critics compared to the previous one.

‘Divine Intervention’ was the sixth album featuring the popular Slayer music and was released on September 27, 1994. It was notable for featuring Paul Bostaph on drums after Dave Lombardo left in the previous album recordings.

They released their next album, ‘Undisputed Attitude’, on the 28th of May, 1996 which was a collection of punk cover songs featuring the artists that they claimed to had influenced their style. These include Minor Threat, D.R.I. and Iggy Pop.

Their next album, ‘Diabolus in Musica’, was their most experimental album to date. Translated into English it means ‘The Devil in Music’. The album was filled with songs composed mainly by Jeff Haneman.

On September 11, 2001, coinciding with the terrorist attacks in the United States, the band released ‘God Hates Us All’. It caused some controversy for the band for the timing of the launch. It was also the last time that Paul Bostaph played with them.

‘Christ Illusion’ entered the highest rank they ever did on Billboard 200 which was at 5. The album generally received positive reviews when it was released on August 8, 2006.
