Types of Strapping

Strapping is the process of applying a strap to hold or fasten an item. It is widely applied in the packaging industry. A popular type of strapping material is Polypropylene, which is designed for light to medium duties. It comes in various widths, thicknesses, and variations. It also has high elongation but tends to have a dead stretch with constant stress. Some are embossed or printed.

 

Polyester is the strongest plastic strapping product and is used as a viable alternative to steel strapping in some industries. It provides excellent tension on rigid loads and helps a load absorb impact without strap breakage. Nylon strap has greater strength compared to polypropylene and polyester. Unlike other plastics, nylons do no not creep, which is perfect for cold room applications. Other types of strapping materials include corded and woven strapping, paper strapping, composite strapping, and stainless steel straps.

 

Corded and woven straps consist of polyester and rayon. Corded polyester is widely used in sea and rail shipments because of its higher elongation compared with other strapping systems. Paper straps are applied to strap paper products in industrial setups. It does not require the need to cut the straps which can make the product fall apart prematurely. Composite strapping contains filaments and is abrasion resistant. It also has the highest joint efficiency when used with a buckle.

 

Stainless steel strapping is the highest tensile strapping material. Just like polypropylene, it comes in a variety of widths and thicknesses. It is also available in variations in the grade of steel. Steel trapping binds the shipped items together and holds larger items traveling over long distances. 

 

Stainless steel strap is the most reliable strapping system for holding heavy duty materials without causing too much stress. It has surface finishes such as pain, wax, and zinc. The wax is used to apply tension around the bundle and is used in different types of tensioners.

 

The stainless steel sign bracket system is used to secure loose items that can be held together. Clamps fasten the ends of the band. Steel strapping also tightens loose items with a tool called a steel banding tensioner. The tensioner secures the item, making it safe for shipment or delivery.
