One Piece:Who is stronger Luffy or Zoro? Or are they both even?

Curious as to when the two actually do fight it seems as though as they are always equal.
However I know that Luffy does aim for the stronger targets (Mainly because he is the main protagonist)
while Zoro fights the ones somewhat weaker. I am curious as to if one is stronger or if they both are equal in strength. Because I do know that some targets Zoro fights Luffy would not be able to fight and same goes for Zoro.

It is difficult to say which of them is the strongest. They’ve fought each other in 2 occasions, but in both they were interrupted. I agree that luffy usually fights the strongest and zoro the 2nd strongest enemy and luffy has a higher bounty than zoro . But none of that proves which is strongest for the simple fact that the bounty only shows how much the world government considers you as a threat, and since zoro fights only to become stronger while luffy would fight anyone just to make the W.G. crap in their pants shows that they both have a different reason to fight. Besides robin had a higher bounty than zoro but he can still kick her ass.

Luffy and Zoro both show monster strength, tremendous endurance towards the most excruciating pain. My opinion is that zoro would leave luffy dead. Luffy has gears but zoro has shown the ability to overcome those terrible techniques. Zoro fought Oz and managed to deflect his giant punches, and against Kuma he was the only one to be able to dodge his lightning speed attacks. So the gears is not much of a problem.

Besides luffy doesn’t fare well against swordsmen (ex: Sagat, Mihawck at the whitebeard war). But Luffy is able to use all three types of haki which gives him an edge on zoro. But Zoro has shown signs of busoshoku haki when cutting down perona’s hollow which can’t even be touched or is it just asura that grants him the ability to cut through anything.

Anyway zoro vs luffy, the winner would be the one still standing and able to throw a punch or swing a sword. In other words zoro could win because when he is pushed to the limits he still can move ( zoro vs kuma) while luffy passed out after fighting Moriah. So the x-factor would be if Zoro can survive the two gears and the 3 hakis. I hope this was helpful
